About

My name is Jody Patrick Sliger. I was born and raised just outside of Memphis, in a small town named Cordova. My family settled in the Morning Sun area of Shelby County in 1835, traveling by wagon train with about three families, the Patrick's, the Ecklin's, and the Roger's.

I graduated from Germantown High School in Shelby County; first job: short order cook at Stuckey's; I babysat (a lot); am a Registered Dental Assistant Certification; was employed as a Graphic Design Artist, Computer Trainer, and General Manager at Holland Sign Company; have been an apprentice electrician; graphic arts at a newspaper, editor and journalist for newspaper, editor and photojournalist for a travel magazine; and have served as volunteer for many organizations - so pretty much a jack of all trades.

I love to learn - and have continually furthered my education by attending seminars and educational sessions for all types of ways to improve.

In 1981 I married a wonderful man who was born and raised in Sparta, White County, Tennessee. We were blessed with two children, Joseph Matthew and Alex Dillon. They are now all grown up and I am very proud of them. They both graduated from Tennessee Technological University, and I am currently working toward doing the same. (I am having a blast at the college classes I am taking through Motlow State Community College - where my goal is to obtain my Associates degree before working on my bachelors at TTU)

I am the grandmother (better known as Wawa) to two amazing young fellas, Noah and Owen. (cousins . . . each of my boys, had a boy)

We moved to Sparta, White County, in 1997 - where I enjoyed working as a substitute teacher in the White County School System, before working parttime - then full time at the local newspaper, a regional Tourism - Travel magazine, and now at the Sparta - White County Chamber of Commerce, where I am currently serving as Interim President.

Life is good. I will add more later. If you have questions, feel free to email me at jody@myspartatn.com

  1. I love your page......it is so fun to read. You have a wonderful town. I recall my father announcing a show there with Lester Flatt, who was from Sparta, and I came to see the show. I like Sparta. Thanks Jody,
    Nancy
